Ford Motor Company celebrates Mustang’s influence to pop culture and its official entry into the global markets with a one-of-a-kind art collaboration with Burton Morris Studios featuring the popular pony icon.
“The Ford Mustang Pony is one of the most recognizable icons worldwide. I am thrilled to have my paintings be a part of this global initiative.” – Burton Morris
Through the Mustang Unites program, renowned pop artist Burton Morris will uniquely hand-paint and sculpt a series of ten original Mustang pony icons. Each art piece will be emblazoned with one of ten chosen country flags and will feature Morris’ signature stylistic, pop-art energy shards. “No matter where you are in the world, the Mustang pony is one the most recognizable emblems,” says Elizabeth McKelvey, licensing marketing manager, Ford Global Brand Licensing. “And as we celebrate 50 years of Mustang as an iconic sports car, we are also marking the milestone with a creative art collaboration representing its first-ever entry into the international markets.”
In addition to the United States of America, country flags of Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, United Arab Emirates and United Kingdom will be featured in the collection.
Transforming icons to pop art
Artist Burton Morris is best known for his bold, graphic pop art depictions of various modern icons. His subject matter includes everyday objects that portray today’s popular culture including his signature coffee cup with the steam plume on the television hit Friends and global sports events like the FIFA World Cup. His distinctive style is characterized by radiant black outlines and vivid colors that emit energy in all of his artwork.
“As the Ford Mustang celebrates 50 years, it has become a symbol of pop culture with the pony being one of the most recognizable icons worldwide,” says Burton Morris. “I am thrilled to have my paintings be a part of Mustang Unites and celebrate Mustang around the world,” says Burton Morris.
Along with the original sculptures, the Mustang Unites collection will include paper prints and posters. The collection will be available globally online at www.MustangUnites.com
A global pop culture icon
Mustang’s impact goes well beyond the more than 9.2 million cars sold in its 50 years of continuous production. It has made thousands of appearances in film, television, music and video games, and is the most-liked vehicle on Facebook, with close to 8 million likes. “In partnering with Burton Morris on Mustang Unites, we hope to bring together Mustang, art and pop culture in a very unique way, and capture the spirit and emotion of the iconic pony car that connects owners, fans and enthusiasts from around the world,” added McKelvey.
For the first time in its 50-year history, Mustang will be available globally to customers in more than 120 countries around the world. The addition of a right-hand-drive Mustang to Ford’s global vehicle lineup will allow the iconic pony car to be exported to more than 25 right-hand-drive markets around the world, including the United Kingdom, Australia and South Africa.
The #MustangUnites campaign kicks off September 17th at the Sunset Marquis in Los Angeles. Artist Burton Morris will debut 3 original Mustang paintings, along with a print of the original 10 pony designs.
